Commissioned Paintings
One of the best parts of my job is working with clients to create the perfect painting for their home. Typically people will meet me through art fairs or by recommendation from a friend....and they are looking for a painting of particular scene or subject that is special to them*. Not only do I want to exceed their expectations in the finished product...but I love making the entire process a fun a memorable experience! Read below how most commissioned paintings come into being! :)

*(Inqiries about portraits (people or pets) I refer out to artist friends of mine. My specialty is landscape/cityscape and still life.
Step 1
Determine Size and Subject
Usually clients will have a subject in mind, such as a photograph from a special vacation. Other subjects I've done:
-
Peonies with specific colors to match room
-
Wedding chapel
-
Childhood home
-
View of Indianapolis that is special significance

Size also needs to be discussed at this beginning stage. If I client already has a spot picked out in their home for the painting, I recommend for them to test out different dimensions using masking tape on the wall to find what will look best. I also provide them with my size/price chart to see how the commissioned piece can fit into their budget.
Size/Price Commission List
These prices are for unframed paintings. 12x12 and 11x14" are painted on hardboard panels, sizes 16x20 and up are painted on stretched canvas (1.5" thick) and could be hung without a frame.
Framing can be arranged and worked into quote for an additional fee.
Step 2
See Sketch & Determine Price
Here's where I start putting pencil to paper and envision what the painting will look like. Sometimes I'll work up a couple different ideas depending on the subject/scene for a client to consider.

At this stage, we also settle on a price and timeframe for the project.

Step 3
Digital Color Sketch + 50% Downpayment
From here...I take a picture of my pencil sketch and add color digitally using the Procreate app on my iPad. Sometimes I'll offer multiple options for clients to decide between.

Once this color sketch is approved, then I ask the clients to then give me the official "green light" to proceed with the real painting. I also require a 50% downpayment for the painting before I start. The remaining balance will be paid upon pickup/delivery.

Step 4
Watch the painting come to life!
Here's where you start witnessing your painting develop. I share process photos via email. It's so fun to watch it come to life!
Something fun to consider!
Let's hide some things in your painting!
Might as well, right?! I have LOVED doing this special touch for commissioned paintings and that is, very subtly hiding names, words, numbers, etc. into the brushwork of the painting. You'll only see it if you're really looking for it! It's a super fun element that makes your painting all the more special!

Step 5
The Reveal! + Remaining payment due

"We cannot thank Jessica enough for absolutely capturing our story through our painting and making the process so fun & easy."
Derek & Alexandra
"We are speechless with how amazing our painting of our wedding chapel turned out, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You are truly so talented and we will be showing the painting off for the rest of our lives."
Jaclyn
Our custom piece turned out beautiful! This was a commission with inspiration from some photos my husband took of St.Louis. She helped decide which would provide a strong concept and provided me with sketches prior to initiating work. Great communication and updates along the way, really neat to see the process!
